Assistant Headteacher – Pastoral Lead
Inner London | Salary up to £83,000
An established and highly regarded SEND school in Inner London, working in partnership with Gilbert Meher, is seeking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher (Pastoral Lead) to join their dynamic Senior Leadership Team.
This is a key strategic role, responsible for leading and coordinating the school’s pastoral provision, medical care, and safeguarding systems. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the social, emotional, and physical wellbeing of all pupils is prioritised and embedded across the school community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership across pastoral care, medical provision, and safeguarding
- Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy DSL
- Lead the implementation of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and Trauma-Informed Practice (TIC)
- Oversee medical care for pupils with complex needs, including staff training and coordination with healthcare professionals
- Line manage multidisciplinary teams including behaviour specialists, family liaison workers, and healthcare assistants
- Deliver high-quality professional development to staff, with a focus on de-escalation and trauma-sensitive practices
- Strengthen engagement with families and external agencies to support a wrap-around model of care
- Contribute to whole-school leadership, improvement planning, and compliance with statutory responsibilities
The ideal candidate will have:- Proven leadership experience within a SEND or inclusive school setting
- A strong understanding of safeguarding, behaviour support, and complex medical needs
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- The ability to foster a culture of empathy, inclusion, and continuous improvement
Salary: Up to £83,000 (Inner London)
